What Loratadine is used for:Â
Loratadine tablets effectively relieve symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and perennial allergic rhinitis. These symptoms include sneezing, runny nose, nasal itching, as well as burning, itching, and watering of the eyes. Loratadine tablets are also used to alleviate symptoms of chronic idiopathic urticaria, a skin rash characterized by hives and wheals.Â
Do not take Loratadine:Â
If you have a known allergy to loratadine or any of its ingredients.Â
Warnings and precautions:Â
Before taking loratadine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have severe liver problems or are scheduled for skin tests for allergies. Avoid taking Loratadine Tablets for two days before undergoing these tests, as it may interfere with the test results.Â
Possible side effects:Â
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction to this medicine, which may include skin rash, itching, swelling of the face/tongue/lips/hands/feet, and breathing difficulties. The most commonly reported side effects in adults and children over 12 years are drowsiness, headache, increased appetite, and difficulty sleeping. In children aged 2 to 12 years, the most commonly reported side effects are headache, nervousness, and tiredness.Â
Other medicines and Loratadine:Â
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking ketoconazole (used for fungal infections), erythromycin (an antibiotic), or cimetidine (used for heartburn treatment).Â
How to take Loratadine:Â
For adults (including older people) and children over 12 years, the recommended dose is 10 mg once daily (one tablet). Children aged 2 to 12 years with a body weight over 30 kg should take 10 mg once daily. Children with a body weight of 30 kg or below are not recommended to take Loratadine. This medicine should be swallowed whole with water and can be taken with or without food.Â
How to store Loratadine:Â
Keep Loratadine out of the reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date mentioned on the carton and foil after ‘EXP’, which refers to the last day of that month. Store in the original package and dispose of any unused medicine properly to protect the environment.Â
